Robin is front page news in Time Out

Pub sing-alongs are the number one thing to do in London according to Time Out’s front cover feature about keeping entertained in London. Robin took part in a photo-shoot and appears in the number one slot in a feature entitled ‘101 Things to do in London’ in the November 15th issue of the famous magazine.  See the media coverage page for the article.

New regular solo gig for Robin in London playing traditional jazz and pub music

Robin will be performing every Wednesday at the new William IV pub in N1. Robin has been asked to play a range of traditional jazz and popular pub favourites to compliment the pub’s fantastic ambience. See the gigs page for more information.

Public gigs lined up at the Hog in Armour in Norwich

Following a busy summer of private performances, Robin’s function group, Pinstripe Suit, has been asked to perform regularly at The Hog Inn Armour in Norwich city centre. Quickly proving itself to be one of the top music venues in the city, Pinstripe Suit will bring popular vocal jazz and funk to the venue. See the gigs page for more information.

The Robin Phillips Quartet becomes a Sextet

Following increasing demand for ensemble performances Robin has added two musicians to his existing quartet to make a six-piece band. The Robin Phillips Sextet, also known as Pinstripe Suit, now includes a female vocalist and a trumpet player. The ensemble is available for jazz venues, weddings, and functions, see the contact page for more information.

JMT to perform at the Aldeburgh Festival

Following a sell-out performance alongside Roger Lloyd Pack at the Sheringham Little Theatre, the Jehane Markham Trio is to perform at the Aldburgh Fringe festival. Featuring Robin on piano and Graeme Howell on bass, the duo will accompany Jehane’s original poetry and include the new ‘London Series’.

Twice-weekly performances at Ivory’s restaurant in The Assembly House

Robin is now performing twice a week in what must be Norwich’s most beautiful restaurant. Every Tuesday lunchtime (12-2pm) and Friday evening (8-10pm), Robin will provide mellow jazz on the in-house Bluthner grand piano under the chandeliers. Visitwww.assemblyhousenorwich.co.uk for more details.

Robin teams up with actor Roger Lloyd-Pack for the third time

Following great success putting the works of Keats and Blake to music. Robin and long-term bass partner Graeme Howell take the challenge of T.S.Elliot’s ‘The Wasteland’ in their latest project with the world-famous actor. The Jehane Markham Trio, ft. Robin, performs original compositions

Now a regular performing team, Robin and Graeme Howell continue their work with acclaimed poet and playwright, Jehane Markham. At their next performance in a double bill with Roger Lloyd-Pack on May 6th, JMT will perform their new jazz-poetry ‘London Suite’. Robin teams up with two female vocalists

After a series of auditions in March, Robin has selected two female vocalists for upcoming duo gigs. Laura White and Kirsty Jarvis will team up with Robin for duo gigs throughout 2006. The first of these will feature Laura White on Saturday 13th May in a jazz night at the Assembly House in Norwich.

The Robin Phillips Quartet is born

Following a month of searching and a series of auditions, Robin has announced the members of his new jazz quartet. An international line-up of musicians will take to the stage with Robin for gigs throughout 2006. Virtuoso saxophonist and flautist Matt Mckay heads up the group’s front line, with Czech Republic bassist Vilem Hais on acoustic bass and Chicago-born drummer Danny Howard keeping things swinging on drums. The group are currently in rehearsals and the first performance of the Robin Phillips Quartet is set for June.

Robin looking for band members

An increasing demand for Robin to headline at events has led to the need for a band to be formed. Robin is looking to find energetic, talented jazz musicians on the following instruments: drums, acoustic bass, sax, and female vocal. Performance at Reeds of Tombland

Robin returns to Reeds on Friday 17th February following popular demand after a previous performance at the member’s club in Norwich’s Tombland.

Valentine’s special performance

Robin inspired an intimate audience on Sat 11th February when he performed a specially chosen set of classic jazz love songs at the Assembly House in Norwich.

Robin goes full-time with his music career

Due to increased gigs and a desire to have more time for promoting and rehearsing, Robin finally left his day job behind at the end of January to enable him to concentrate on his music career in 2006!

January 2006

A flying start to the new year

January was packed with gigs with Robin, seeing him perform at Centre Parcs, every week at The Glasshouse chain of Wetherspoons, as well as other regular gigs in Norwich. He also had time to check out Julian Jospeh’s latest quartet performance (sans guitarist), an awesome display of ability as always and Mark Mondesir was absolutely jazzin’ out on drums, surely one of the best jazz drummers in the world!
