Robin Phillips Trio to open new Cunard cruise liner

Robin’s trio will be opening Cunard’s newest cruise liner, the Queen Victoria, during the Royal inaugural weekend this month. Prince Charles and Camilla will visit the cruiseliner during the opening weekend.

The Robin Phillips Sextet returns to the Sheringham Little Theatre.

Robin’s 6-piece jazz ensemble will be performing a specially arranged evening of music looking at the pivotal jazz albums of 1959 – one of the most important years in the development of jazz music.

Robin signs with new agent

This month, Robin auditioned and was picked up by one of London’s biggest agents:Gary Parkes Music. Gary Parkes represents hundreds of musicians in some of the most prestigious venues in the UK. He is also the sole provider of musicians for the Cunard cruise liners.

Robin relocates to London

After 10 years of Living in Norwich, Robin has moved to London following an increased demand for his performances in the capital. Robin and his ensembles will continue to perform in both London and East Anglia.

The Robin Phillips Sextet debuts its ‘Great Singwriters of Jazz’ programme

On Sunday 24th June, the Robin Phillips Sextet will perform its specially arranged programme at the Sheringham Little Theatre.  The program will look at the music of composers including George Gershwin, Cole Porter and Rogers & Hart.

Robin plays at Vinopolis in London

Robin will be performing at London’s famous wine museum on the South Bank, Vinopolis. The performace will take place on Friday 18th May.

More performances announced at the Sheringham Little Theatre

Following the popularity of the upcoming ‘Jazz Across the 20th Century’ performance at the Sheringham Little Theatre, Robin’s ensemble has been asked to put together two further programmes for the prestigeous North Norfolk venue.

The Robin Phillips Sextet will perform ‘The Great Songwriters of Jazz’ on Sunday 24th June and a concert entitled ‘1959’ on Saturday 24th November. The ‘1959’ concert will look at five seminal jazz albums that were released in 1959, including John Coltrane’s ‘Giant Steps’, Miles Davis’ ‘Kind of Blue’, and Charles Mingus’ ‘Mingus Ah Um’. 

The Robin Phillips Trio ft. Kirsty Jarvis to appear at Jazz at the Swan

Robin and his trio will be joined by Pinstripe Suit’s lead singer, Kirsty Jarvis, for a jazz programme devised for the ‘Jazz at The Swan’ series of events in Poringland. Held every month, the jazz series put on at Zaks in The Swan is run in collaboration with Chris Bailey Events. See the gigs page for more information about the gig on Thursday 21st June.

The Robin Phillips Sextet heads into the studio

Robin and his six-piece ensemble went to The Lodge recording studios in Northampton to record the group’s new EP this month. The band recorded in a variety of ensembles from solo to six-piece and covered songs including Loverman, It Don’t Mean a Thing, Mr P.C. and a new arrangement by Robin which medleys Mack the Knife, When the Saints and In the Mood, called Saint Mack’s Mood. MP3s will be available from this website soon.

Robin appears on BBC TV London

Robin appeared on BBC London this week in a news item looking at songs about London. The news article was looking at songs about London in the run up top the 2012 Olympics and asked Robin to perform ‘ Maybe It’s Because I’m A Londoner’ at one of his regular performance venues, The William IV pub in N1.
