New Year’s Eve performance at Royal hotel

Robin’s dual-vocal ensemble, Kir Royal, featuring jazz vocalist Kirsty Jarvis, will perform at The Goring hotel next to Buckingham Palace for New Year’s Eve. The hotel is well known for its royal visitors and its regular visits from the Queen Mother for Afternoon Tea in the past.

Performing throughout the evening and through the new year celebrations, Kir Royal will perform a collection of upbeat jazz classics to held ring in the new year. Kir Royal features Robin on piano / vocals, Kirsty Jarvis vocals, and Vilem Hais bass. For more inforamation see www.thegoring.com.

New CD enjoys international success

Robin’s new album, ‘Old Street, New Groove’, recorded with his trio and a range of guest artists, is selling across the globe, with early orders following the launch of the album from places including Japan, Hong Kong, Germany, and the US. New performances

Robin will be performing regularly at two new venues from December, including the beautiful boutique hotel, The Montague On The Gardens, and the famous Criterion restaurant in Piccadilly Circus. For more information, see the gigs pages. 

Robin Phillips Quartet to host the Christmas Special at The Archduke jazz bar

On December 18th, Robin will perform with his quartet for the Archduke’s Christmas Special. As well as performing tracks from the new CD, ‘Old Street, New Groove’, the ensemble will perform upbeat jazz versions of well-known Christmas songs and other jazz standards. New regular performances at Piano Soho & Piano Kensington

Robin will be joining the team at The Piano Group for weekly performances from December. Every Sunday, Robin will host the new ‘Jazz Night’ at Piano Kensington, performing vocal jazz, with guest artists joining Robin once a month. The new ‘Jazz Night’ compliments the existing ‘Jazz Night’ each Sunday at Piano Soho with the Bazz Norton Trio.

Every Tuesday, Robin will perform at Piano Soho as a Piano Entertainer. Different to his usual jazz performances, these will feature Robin singing and playing the best of pop music from across the years and playing requests from the audience.

NEW CD: Album launch – November 14th

Robin will be launching his new album during the 2010 London Jazz Festival. The launch will take place at the popular London jazz bar, The Archduke (nr. Waterloo) on Sunday 14th November at 18:00.

The Robin Phillips Trio will perform at the launch as well as guest artists who feature on the album. The ensemble’s new music video to teh single from the album, God Bless The Child, will also be premiered at the event. Reservations are available on request although numbers are limited.

NEW CD: Album & video finished

The new album and music video are now finished. The band is currently finalising the cover design and the album will go into production in a few weeks.

New venue: The Archduke

Robin will start performing at a new venue in London this month: The Archduke on the Southbank, near Waterloo Station. The Archduke has a long history of jazz and puts on live music throughout the week. Robin’s first performance at The Archduke is on Saturday 4th September, 7pm-9pm, as a duo with Vilem Hais on bass. Robin will also be performing solo at The Archduke on Sunday 26th September. On both occasions, Robin will be playing and singing jazz standards and showcasing tunes from his upcoming new CD. NEW CD: Recording underway

Robin is in the recording studio this week recording his new CD, to be launched in November. The album features the Robin Phillips Trio including Claire Brock on drums and Vilem Hais on bass. There are also a number of guest artists appearing on various tracks (see below).

Four gigs in two days!

Robin will be performing four times in 24 hours this weekend (25th-26th September). The first performance is with the Jehane Markham Trio (JMT) featuring for the first time Natalie Rozario on cello as part of the Ham & High Festival. The group will perform their original piece, ‘Vladivostok to Moscow’, which presents Jehane’s original poetry to musical compositions depicting a journey on the famous Russian railway. On Saturday evening Robin will perform with Vil Hais at Shanghai Blues in Holborn.

On Sunday, Robin performs with jazz vocalist Sarah Ellen-Hughes at the famous RAC Club on Pall Mall, as part of the venue’s Sunday lunch jazz series (members only). Then, later that day Robin performs two solo sets at the renowned London jazz venue, The Archduke, under the arches between Waterloo station and the Royal Festival Hall.

NEW CD: Studio dates booked

Robin is heading into the studio next month to record his latest album with the Robin Phillips Trio featuring Vilem Hais (bass) and Claire Brock (drums). The album is the result of four years gigging professionally in London, where the lifestyle and the performances have lead to the album’s concept. The ensemble are calling the style ‘Groove Jazz’ and the album will feature groove-based versions of jazz standards with a few surprises too. The album will be recorded at The Lodge recording studio in Northampton, a fantastic recording studio with a lovely grand piano and the ability to stay there whilst recording in order to get completely into the music: www.lodgerecording.co.uk.

NEW CD: Guest artists

Robin works with some fantastic musicians in his various performances around the Capital and has asked some to feature on certain tracks of the new album. Guests artists to appear on the new CD include: jazz singers Kirsty Jarvis and Sarah Ellen-Hughes, jazz saxophonist Gareth Lumbers, jazz trumpeter Neil Penny, and jazz flugel player Tony Royle.

Jehane Markham Trio (JMT) CD now available:

A unique and original jazz / poetry piece, JMT’s ‘The London Series’ is now available to buy on CD, following its launch at Free Word in Farringdon, London on 2nd June. At the event, JMT performed ‘The London Series’ in a double bill with actor Roger Lloyd Pack who performed T.S. Elliott’s ‘The Wasteland’ with cellist Melissa Phelps.

Robin is a founder member of JMT and composed the ‘poetic symphony’ with poet and playright Jehane Markham, along with bassists Graeme Howell and Jonny Gee. The studio CD also contains 2 bonus tracks of original jazz / poetry. For more information or to order a CD, visit www.roughwinds.co.uk

Robin Phillips Trio launch new material at Summer Ball:

The Robin Phillips Trio featuring Robin on piano / vocals, Vilem Hais on bass and Claire Brock on drums, will launch their new groove-jazz sound at the Norfolk Summer Ball on Saturday 19th June.

The trio will be heading into the studio this summer to record a new album featuring the group’s new sound, which merges funky grooves with jazz standards.

JMT to perform ‘The London Series’:

Robin will be performing as part of the Jehane Markham Trio (JMT) on Thursday 3rd June at the Free Word Centre, 60 Farringdon Road, London, EC1R 3GA.

The performance of the group’s original poerty / music piece will be followed by Roger Lloyd Pack (of Only Fools And Horses, The Vicar of Dibly, and The Old Guys) who will be reading T.S. Elliot’s The Wasteland accompanied by cellist, Mellissa Phelps.

Kir Royal Studio Day & New Audio:

Kir Royal, Robin’s duel-vocal ensemble with jazz vocalist Kirsty Jarvis, has just spent time back in the studio to record new audio for the group. Kirsty and Robin were joined by bassist Vilem Hais at Lodge Recording Studios in Northampton where they laid down four new tracks: My Baby Just Cares For Me, Sunny, God Bless The Child, and If I Were A Bell.

Duelling Piano Performances In Holland:

Robin will be in Groningen, Holland for two weeks from 3rd – 14th March for duelling-piano perfromances at the city’s Great Pianos venue. Playing alongside a local pianist/vocalist and drummer the Friday and Saturday evening performances are notorious for their livliness. Robin will also be performing early evening slots on Wednesdays and Thursdays during the two-week slot. Click here for more information about Great Pianos.

Jazz Returns To Shanghai Blues:

Robin will be performing regularly at Shanghai Blues throughout 2010 with the return of jazz to the cool High Holborn venue. Robin will be performing music from his upcoming album in duo format in the regular performances. See the gigs page for more information.

Trio Jazz At Old Bank Of England – Last Weds Of Month:

Robin will be performing in trio format on the last Wednesday of every month in 2010 at the beuatifully-restored Old Bank Of England on Fleet Street. Featuring piano, bass, and saxophone the trio will perform a selection of jazz standards to complement the fantastic decor and Fullers beers on offer.
