More Duelling Pianos performances in Switzerland

Robin returns to Lausanne in Switzerland for 10 Duelling Pianos performances at Kingsize piano bar in November. His duelling partner for the two weeks of gigs will be popular European piano entertainer, Chris Mars.

Pinstripe Suit Live! CD launch

Robin’s 7-piece swing band launches it’s first CD album on Saturday 16th November. The CD, called Pinstripe Suit Live!, features a collection of tracks recorded live at Boisdale Canary Wharf and two previously recorded studio tracks. The CD will be launched at the band’s monthly residency performance at speakeasy bar, Nightjar, in Old Street, London, on Sat 16th November. The event has already sold out.

Harry Connick Jr night at Boisdale Canary Wharf

On Wednesday 6th November the Robin Phillips Trio pay tribute to the music or Harry Connick Jr at Boisdale Canary Wharf. Robin will be joined by Chris Draper (drums) and Jay Darwish (bass) as they perform jazz standards brought new life by Connick and a collection of his original tunes.

Jazz vocalist Karen Lane guests at ‘Jazz Junction’

The ‘Jazz Junction’ nights continue at The Plough in Great Chesterford on Thursday 31st October. This month the special guest performer is jazz vocalist Karen Lane and she will be performing with Robin on piano and Joel Human on bass. Free entry, special offers for diners, gig starts at 8pm.

Three gigs for Robin Phillips Quartet on London jazz scene

The Robin Phillips Quartet will perform three times on the London jazz scene in the first two weeks in August. On Sat 3rd August the quartet plays the popular Archduke jazz bar’s late set, starting at 10pm and featuring Robin alongside top bebop saxophonist Sam Mayne, bassist Ben Hazelton, and drummer Dave Ohm.

On Thursday 8th and 15th August, the quartet plays the flagship Boisdale jazz bar, both gigs starting at 10pm. On Thurs 8th the quartet features Robin with sax powerhouse Brandon Allen, drummer Chris Draper (drummer on Robin’s new album), and bassist Jay Darwish. Jay joins Robin again on 15th with Alex Garnett on tenor sax and Matt Home on drums.

Jazz Lounge returns to CMJ

The Jazz Lounge sessions, hosted by the Robin Phillips Trio, in association with Cambridge Modern Jazz, continue in the Autumn with the first one on Thursday 12th September. The house band of Robin Phillips on piano / vocals, Joel Humann on bass, and Derek Scurll on drums will be joined by special guest, trumpeter Steve Fishwick. Steve is one of the UK’s top jazz trumpeters and a regular at Ronnie Scott’s jazz club in London’s Soho.

Pinstripe Suit to perform at Cambridge Vintage Night

A new vintage evening is being held in Cambridge city centre on Friday 6th September, and Pinstripe Suit swing band will be headlining the gig. The event, hoped to be the first of a regular vintage night, will include a dance lesson and buffet, as well as two sets from Pinstripe Suit.

New Pinstripe Suit album and video

The new live Pinstripe Suit album is nearing completion, with mixing taking place in August at Zoo studio in Cambridge. The video which accompanies the new live album, recorded at Boisdale Canary Wharf in London, was filmed at Cambridge Lindy dance club and Boisdale Canary Wharf gigs and is in the final stages of editing.

New jazz album nears compeltion

Robin’s new sing/play vocalese jazz album is nearing completion. The photoshoot for the album’s artwork will take place on 14th Aug in Cambridge and the photography will be done by world-famous music photographer Mick Hutson.

The album’s edits are all now complete, and the album will be mixed at Derek Nash’s studio on 16th August.

Pinstripe Suit records new live EP at Boisdale

Quickly becoming known as one of the best swing bands in the UK, Pinstripe Suit will perform and record a new ‘live at Boisdale’ EP in June.

The band will feature its 7-piece line-up including piano/vocals, female vocals, sax, trumpet, trombone, bass and drums at Boisdale Canary Wharf on Tuesday 11th June.

To celebrate the event Boisdale is running a competition to win tickets to the gig and a copy of the new live recording.

Robin returns to Savoy’s famous piano bar

In June, Robin returns to perform at one of the world’s most famous piano bars: the American Bar in The Savoy in London. Robin will perform on Saturday 8th June entertaining guests that in the past have included Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, and Elton John.

Robin continues his popular ‘Jazz Lounge’ sessions with Cambridge Modern Jazz at the Hidden Rooms in Cambridge on Thursday 6th June. The house trio of Robin (piano/vocals), Joel Humann (bass), and Derek Scurll (drums) will be joined this month by Texas Tenor saxophonist, Albert Garza.

Robin pays tribute to Nat King Cole at Boisdale

Robin performs with Nigel Price (guitar) and British Jazz Awards 2013 nominee Tim Thornton (bass) as the three recreate and pay tribute to the line-up made famous by Nat King Cole: piano/vocals, guitar, and bass. The performance takes place at the Jools Holland-patroned Boisdale jazz club in Canary Wharf on Wednesday 5th June at 8pm.

Pinstripe Suit performs for the Cambridge Lindy dance society

Pinstripe Suit swing band performs at the Speakeasy night for the Cambridge Lindy dance society on Monday 6th May. Cambridge Lindy hosts a swing dance night each Monday at the Man on the Moon venue in Cambridge and invites swing bands to play for the dancers each month. Pinstripe Suit specialises in performing for swing dance and lindy dance groups and has previously performed for the London Swing Dance Society at the 100 Club and the Norfolk Swing Dance Society.

‘Jazz Junction’ continues at The Plough, Gt. Chesterford

The monthly jazz club at The Plough in Great Chesterford returns on Thursday 2nd May. Robin will be joined by two London guests this month: Tim Thornton on bass (currently up for a ‘rising star’ British Jazz Award) and Italian-born London-based singer, Rosanna Brandi.

The ‘Jazz Junction’ club nights are free and the music starts at 7pm.

CMJ Jazz Lounge ft. Sam Mayne

Robin continues his ‘Jazz Lounge’ series with Cambridge Modern Jazz on Thursday 11th April at Hidden Rooms in Cambridge city centre. The house band features Robin on piano / vocals, Derek Scurll on drums and Joel Humann on bass.

The special guest in April is the phenominal young alto sax player, Sam Mayne. Sam is a member of the BBC Big Band, Stan Tracey Octet, Guy Barker Orchestra and formerly the John Dankworth big band. He appears regularly at Ronnie Scott’s Club and was a Perrier award winner in 2000 for Best Band with his own quartet.

The evening also features a jazz jam, where local musicians can join the band to try out their own improvising skills.

Robin returns to Lausanne, Switzerland in April for two weeks of Duelling Pianos performances with Duelling Pianos partner, Franky Flame. The performances will take place nightly Tues – Sat at Kingsize piano bar between 15th and 25th April..

In the studio recording new album

Robin is currently recording his new album, a sing / play vocalese album inspired by the music and vocalese writing of legendary jazz singer, King Pleasure. The album will feature some of the UK’s most exciting jazz musicians, including Tim Thornton on bass and Chris Draper on drums. Special guests to appear on the album include the legendary international jazz singers Ian Shaw and Anita Wardell, and top UK jazz instrumentalists Brandon Allen, Steve Fishwick, Sam Mayne, and Albert Garza.

Jazz Junction at The Plough

This month’s Jazz Junction at The Plough in Great Chesterford will take place on Thursday 28th March and feature special guest, vocalist Georgia Mancio. From 7pm.

Robin returns to Archduke on London’s Southbank

Robin will perform at London’s Archduke jazz bar on Saturday 2nd March with a fantastic line-up. The band will feature Geoff Gascoyne on bass, Seb DeKrom on drums, and Sammy Mayne on alto sax.

The group will be playing a variety of music including music from Robin’s ‘Old Street, New Groove’ album, and music from his upcoming album, being recorded later in March.

The performace starts at 10pm but there is live music from 7:30pm.

Brandon Allen guests with Robin @ Cambridge Modern Jazz

On Thursday 28th February, Robin hosts his second ‘Jazz Lounge’ night with Cambridge Modern Jazz at the Hidden Rooms in Cambridge city centre.

Doors open at 18:30 and the performance will feature London special guest, Brandon Allen on sax, with Robin on vocals and piano, Joel Humann on bass, and Derek Scurll on drums.

There will also be a jazz jam element to the evening.

New regular jazz performances at The Plough, Great Chesterford

repmusic has teamed up with the new landlords at The Plough to present regular live jazz.

On the second Sunday each month there will be live jazz during the afternoon in the rare Nat King Cole-style trio featuring Robin Phillips on piano/vocals, Louis Thorne on guitar, and Joel Humann on bass.

On the last Wednesday each month is the ‘Jazz Junction’ night where Robin Phillips will be joined by a bass player and a special guest from the London jazz scene.

The first ‘Jazz Junction’ is Wednesday 27th February and features special guest Steve Fishwick on trumpet, supported by Robin Phillips on piano and Joel Humann on bass.

New ‘Jazz Lounge’ & jam with Cambridge Modern Jazz

repmusic has teamed up with long-running provider of live jazz Cambridge Modern Jazz to present a regular jazz night with a house trio, guests and a jam.

The Robin Phillips Trio will host the evenings, held on Thursday nights when the main CMJ programme is not scheduled. Each month the house trio will be joined by a guest from the London jazz scene. Guests include Brandon Allen (tenor sax), Tom Walsh (trumpet), and Sam Mayne (alto sax). There will also be a jazz jam as part of the evenings.

The ‘Jazz Lounge’ will be held in Cambridge city centre at the Hidden Rooms. Entrance is £8 or £6 for concessions (including musicians).
